MALAY MAIL (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) 02 November 05 Goat meal proves too much for python (Isma Jamil)
Kangar: A 6.5m-long python, earmarked to be a tourist attraction at a reptilian farm, had its ‘last supper’ on Sunday.
The snake, believed to be one of the longest caught in recent times, choked to death about 5.30am yesterday, about six hours after it swallowed a goat.
Workers at the Snakes and Reptiles Farm in Sungai Batu Pahat, near here, tried in vain to save the reptile.
On Sunday, the snake was caught by villagers in Kampung Charok Damai near Sik, and handed over to a team of firemen.
The firemen then contacted the farm supervisor, Abd Kohar Abd Malik, to take possession of the snake as it was unusually long.
Accompanied by a group of farm workers, Abd Kohar went to the Sik fire station, where the 120kg snake was handed over to them.
"When we arrived at the station the snake was still alive but it was not in good condition.
“Its belly was bulging and the reptile was struggling to breathe,” said Abd Kohar.
On arrival at the farm at 5.30am yesterday, he said, the snake’s condition worsened and it died.
"We operated on the reptile and found that its meal was a big goat.”
Abd Kohar said he had hoped to keep it at the farm as it was the longest they had.
“I was hoping it could attract tourists and visitors to the farm during the long school vacation,” Abd Kohar said.
