Anyone know of a online calculator I can use for determing dosages for fagle and panacure?
Thanks Tom
I believe Flagyl is 30~40mg/kg.
Alan
ps. No, I am not aware of one, but would be interested in one if it existed.
I have been searching the net andthere are lots out there, but can't find one I can use.
The dosage for both Panacure (Metronidozole) and Flagyl (Fenbendozole) is 100 mg/kg once and then repeated in 2 weeks. You can get both in pill form or in a paste.
If you are using Pill form the number stamped on the pill is how many milligrams are in a pill. The most common dosage for Flagyl is 250 but they come in 100 and 500 as well as many other sizes.
If you are using a 250 mg pill;
Since the dosage is 100 mg/kg if you have 250 mg in a pill the pill will treat 2500 grams (2.5 kgs).
You can get Panacur at any farm supply store in the paste form to treat farm animals (mainly for horses as it is apple flavour). The tube of Panacur usually comes in a 25 ml tube and the strength is 100mg/ml. So, I ml of Panacure paste will treat 1000 grams (1kg) of snake. The tube is good for 25kgs of snake.
Another way to calculate would be the following for pill form;
dosage / strenght per pill * weight in kgs = section of pill used.
For example 250mg pill and 1 kgs of snake.
100 mg per kilogram / 250 mg per pill x 1 kg of snake = 0.4 of pill to be used.
An example using 675 grams (.675 kgs) of snake
100 mg per kilo / 250 mg per pill x .675 kgs of snake = 0.27 of pill (or very roughly 1/4 of a pill).
If you were to use the paste at 100mg/ml that is very easy since the dosage is 100mg/kg. If you have 1000 grams (1kg) of snake you use 1 ml of panacur paste. If you have 675 grams (.675 kgs) of snake you use .675 ml.
If you find this completely confusing email me and I'll help you out more.

Corey
Thanks for the info Cory! In a book I have Understanding Reptile Parasites, the book says the doage is 25 to 50 mg. 100mg sounds like to much,.....no?
Thanks Tom
Tom,
This website should help you out.

Dosages taken from the above website (looked up after you asked.....I've always used 100mg/kg). Anyways, here are the "offical" dosages.
Fenbendazole (Panacure)
Reptile Tortoises: 50-100 mg/kg BW PO once; repeat in 2 weeks (Page and Mautino, 1990)
Metronidazole (Flagyl)
Reptile 125-275 mg/kg BW PO once, may be repeated at 7- to 10-day intervals for 1-2 more treatments (Frye, 1981)
Corey
PS I switched the pharmacutical names of the above drugs in my previous post. The above ones are correct.
Thanks for the info Corey. I have a book called Understanding Reptile Parasites, it says that dose is 25 to 50 mg. 100mg sounds like a lot,....don't u think?
I just looked up the dosages in my Manual of Exotic Pets written by the British Small Animal Veterinary Association.
Fenbendazole - 100 mg/kg orally every two weeks until negative for Nematodes and Cestodes
Metronidazole - 100 mg/kg orally every 2 weeks until negative for Flagellated protozoans and amoebas
Also, Metronidazole can be given 50 mg/kg orally DAILY for four weeks to treat amoebas
Hopefully this helps clear things up.
