a strange feeding question

APLAXAR Nov 02, 2005 03:00 PM

last night i was a rat pup short for feeding (i am waiting on my rodent pro order), so i called me neighbor and asked if she had a mouse or pup i could borrow till this order comes in and she brought over a few pinkies and a chunk of beef heart. she feeds it to their tegu and said in a bind she has fed her carpet pythons and a corn snake some, i declined just because i know thayeri and corns dont eat beef or beef heart for that matter, i know nutrionaly it is pure protien but would it be a good idea? i am just curious to what you all will respond with

Interesting question. I have no answer for snakes, but I did use beef heart to feed tropical fish with no ill effects. It is (or was) common practice to feed grated beef heart to tropical fish to get them into breeding condition. I never fed it exclusively, but used it as a supplement for a little variety.
I know this is a kingsnake forum, not a fish forum, but it may help to know that it worked well with fish. I have no idea how it would work for snakes. I wonder if the folks who make those snake sausages use it in their products?
Cheers,
Danny Lee
