How to tell Type I and Type II Anery Boas........

Hoppy Nov 02, 2005 04:36 PM

Ok, I am Familiar with the Type II Anery in Nics and I recently saw that someone was selling an Ecudorian Anery Boas as Type II, Of course I am awear of the Anery Colombians that are common in use for the Morphs, Snows, Ghosts and So. But I have my Anery Leticia Boa that I have always thought that it looked very different. Is there any way other then breeding to anther Type I Anery. Is there a defining trait on the snake that I would be able to look for and say Yes there it is this is a Type II Anery Boa, or do I have to go through and breed it with one of my Double Het for Ghost Females to see if all I get is Hypos that are now double hets for Ghost (now Type 1 & 2) Just thought I would ask. and see if anyway could shed some light on it for me.
Thanks

I've actually heard recently that a type 1 to type 2 breeding was done. It resulted in only one offspring but it was anery.

Might be that type 2's are only different due to the locality appearance differences. I am waiting patiently to try and find out more about it.

if they are the same as typeI. I thought someone crossed these togather many years ago and got dbl. hets for both trials??? Are you saying that this was done now... WOOW. Thats weird. So many projects on blizzard etc... If they produced all anery babys then its the same. Not anery typeII. Im i missing something?

Thank you

The breeding I was informed of was within the past year.

I had never heard of anyone breeding them together previously (which always perplexed me why it hadn't been done).

Perhaps the current breeding the person was sold something without the proper anery label on it.

Intersting. I cant belive it. The blizzard project is huge and if they are the same how can they produce blizzard??? Because they are from different locality and have more black? Doesnt make sense to me. :0)
Thanx for info.

I actually have some doubts to the blizzard projects I've seen. The only type "2" anery het albino I've seen in person looked like a type 1 anery with extensive tail wash out.(which I am sure has alot to do with the Colombian bci influence of the albino parent line) I really hope someone makes one soon so we can see what it looks like.

From my experience, breeding both colombian and central americans, are that the centrals thrive a lot better then the colombians ... they seem to be more active, breed earlier, have better litter success, and so on. They also stay a more managable size ... if the colombian and central anery are compatible i still think its worth breeding them to make better snows/albinos/anery's and bc the central influence is that much darker, heavier patterned, and have long tails...they really add good/strong genes to some of the weaker colombian morphs ..

Also, even if both lines are compatible .. it is still thought that the central type 2 is also Axanthic and anery so wont hold the yellow coloring that u see on many albinos and snows ...

Long story short.. regardless of compatibility .. i think type 2's still hold good value and will result with some outstanding albino cross results ... Blizzard or not HERE THEY COME!!!

Are those double het Blizzards?
Also, I think you're right about adding the CA (or any new) blood into the weaker colombians morphs. I used to not really be into that, but after reading a bunch of these posts, I realized that all the boas out there are potentially mutts anyway.
The words "hybrid vigor" come to mind...
Really, we're not breeding them to reintroduce into the wild, we really just want healthier, prettier animals with better temperaments, right?

ITS CALLED DESIGNER MORPHS, CORRECT !!!

in my opinion to design something is to mix and match different things and then combine them .. boa morphs are about eye candy.. pure boas are great to .. but i would have to say alot of what u see out there are not pure ...

at first i didnt like the sunsuset boas bc they were hogg island crosses .. but now i am breeding them this year after seeing their beauty ... i mean the whole point is to get some crazy looking boas in my opinion..

well thats my two cents about it ...

I think the type 2's are great but when crossed back with colombian morphs pretty much start going back to regular looking anerys. The axanthic apearance is probably a polygenic look that comes with the locality, if you cross it you lose it to some degree.

I definitly agree the centals are easyier to breed by far and more hearty.. I've never had a CA of any kind become i'll in anyway.

Hey, Ed!
Okay, so what you're saying is that someone HAS bred a definite Type I to a definite Type II anery and the baby that resulted was an anery?
So wouldn't that make it more like "coral" is to albino-compatible, but just a nicer version of anery as opposed to the kahl/sharp thing?
So if you bred an anery nic (type II) to a ghost or something (type I) the gene would match up creating only anerys and ghosts?
ps-love the "1.5!"

Really good question!
I had the same question a while back. I was sold an animal that was supposedly an anery Leticia and was wondering the same thing. The snake may or may not be a leticia. I really don't care (and I REALLY don't want to start that discussion again.) I wanted to make sure that the anery genes were compatible with the ghosts and anerys out there because that's what I'm hoping to make. It seems the jury's still out on what the type II anery really is. Where'd you get your anery Leticia?

reptimals Nov 04, 2005 04:31 PM

i took a look at some of his type 2 anery het albinos and i have to say that yes the colombian influence breaks up the pattern a bit more and might lighten them up a bit..but i have never seen a type 1 tha thad such a deep black tail .. those type 2 blizzard hets were defitnetly way darker then the avg. colombian anery .. he still mght have the pics up on his availble page .... checkl em out ..

voodoomagik Nov 07, 2005 02:48 PM

Do you have a link to them?
I checked out Pete AND Jeremy's sites just to be sure but couldn't find any blizzard hets.
