growth rate in hatchlings

xenophon Nov 02, 2005 06:03 PM

I have 2 05 hatchlings (both hatched June/July) and are approximately 20 inches long. Is this normal? The one is amelanistic and her colors are coming in stronger each shed. Speaking of sheddings, they have gone through at least 4 since I have had them. I wasnt expecting them to grow this rapidly (I could easily fit them into the palm of my hand when i got them). Are anyone elses growing this quickly?

Thanks

My hatchling was born that time to or around it atleast and hasn't grown an inch since I got him 3 or 4 weeks ago. He's aproximatly 14inche's. Maybe yours is going through some growth spurt (sp?) or something but I can tell you mine isn't. I really don't care actually and I'm GLAD he isn't growing fast so I don't have to switch his tank for some time. Here's a pic of when I got him and now. 1st pic is now and second is when I got him.

Ive had them pretty much since they hatched (middle of july) and they have been eating about every 5 days. The female is a little bit longer, but not by much. Maybe its the tank. Its from my old snake that i sold (20 long) with lots of hides. They move around in it alot at night. Im glad that they are growing, but i dont want it to be too fast for them to be healthy.

I fed mine every 4 days. He was born on 7/22/04. When I got him at the end of November, he was about 15 inches long. He is about 37 inches now, and has averaged growing 2 inches per month. His growth slowed a bit around June. I think 20 inches is pretty big.
