i keep my tanks as full as i can without them grabbing the edges and pulling themselves out of the water. although i use driftwood in the middle, with a turtle dock it should be lower, at least 1.5 times their shell length below the top of the tank. so raise it up as much as you want as long as it doesnt go above that level.

ok i see what you are saying, i want to hang the filter instead of it sticking to the glass, because that doesnt seem to be doing to well......
just a friend of mine keeps telling me the turtle is going to drown, but from what i see he seems happier since i put ing more water...

whats not doing well? and they are RES right? that would make them WATER turtles, they are made for water. (no offense to your friend)

the filter sticking to the side of the tank isnt doing to well...
no its not a res, its a yellow bellied slider....but still a water turtle..... when he went and picked up the turtle landing at pet smart and told the sales person i had the 55 gallon tank half full of water, she said "its going to drown and its a baby turtle" so he keeps thinking the turtle is going to drown.
i dont think i helped because i told him the turtle doesnt know how to swim i was joking though, that turtle darts all over that tank even hides in the anachris.

turtle landing, i thought you had a turtle dock?

raisnok Nov 03, 2005 04:27 AM

i have a turtle landing and a small turtle dock.....was also going to get the turtle log but it was way to big.

once you raise the water, the turtle landing wont work if its not touching the bottom. how do they like it anyways, i havent used one yet. a single basking spot should be okay as long as there are other places for them to rest their front feet on in other parts of the tank. i like to use aquarium plants that suction to the sides for this. i put them right below the waters surface and they work great.

the turtle landing is similar to the turtle dock, it has bars and suctions to the side of the tank and moves with the water..
my turtle seems to like it, it has a big area.
i like the plant idea thanx for sharing that...

turtle landing

thats different than the one i was thinking of. i dont know if yours is the same, but the one in the picture is a bad idea. it needs to stay above the water even when turtles are on it. they have to be able to dry off completely. if they cant, they are much more likely to develop skin or shell fungus, and algae on their shell (which will block the uv light).

that was why i bought both the landing and the turtle dock, i knew the baby turtle could use both to dry, but when he got bigger was my concern, so i bought both.
