some pics of my boa

classdwhite Nov 02, 2005 07:27 PM

i picked this guy up a week or two again and was told it was a "redtailed boa." can it be just a redtail without being a columbian, surinam, etc? im curious as to what he is b/c ive seen some pics of columbians and they are much grayer than he is. i have a few other snakes but this guy is definitely my favorite already.

That is definately a Colombian redtail boa. They are not true redtails. Colombian redtail boas are Boa constrictor imperator while true redtails are Boa constrictor constrictor. It can't really just be a redtail boa, they all have to come from somewhere (I suppose a mut could be considered just a redtail). The fact that it's Colombian only means that that's where it or it's bloodline is from. Boa constrictor imperator is also found into Central America. While I have seen a few grey adult Colombian boas and plenty of grey juvenile Colombian boas, most adults are tan/brown. Cameras don't like to capture their true coloration. Good luck with it.
