Do White's TFs have a typical frog sling-out tongue?

kanabus87 Nov 02, 2005 10:17 PM

OK, i just bought a white's, i told the guy i need a frog that will eat fruit flies and stuff that just seems to come up in the tank, i have baby crickets in the tank i need eaten because my lizards dont eat the really small ones and he told me this one would be great, and i like him, he went in and started eating right away and then napped all afternoon, i like him already, but he ate all the crickets by jumping at them and catching them with his mouth and chomping them down, is he capable of spitting his tongue out and catching crickets or flies/moths, or will he always eat like that?

I'm not sure if they are able to sling out their tongue at all, but mine never do. they have always eaten by lunging at their prey (or my tongs).

Be forwarned that whites will not deal with your fruit fly problem.

Not positive, but I'm pretty sure their tongues are attached at the front of the mouth like most frogs. Their tongues then sort of flip out and help catch prey as they lunge at it. This action takes place extremely quickly and you probably won't see it. This is the way almost all frogs catch prey, unlike the way they do in cartoons, by shooting their tongues out chamaeleon-style.

Hope this helps.
