If at this point you are quite intimdated by retics, you might want to take a step back and reconsider them for your next snake. There probably are a few better species for you to work with at this time...
To answer your question, if you purchase a high quality captive born animal as a baby, I think you'll find them quite tame to begin with. If not, a few handling sessions should prove to them that you're not trying to eat them and there should be an improvement in their behavior. After that, consistent and regular handling should keep them quite happy with you
