Albino and anery

ladywhipple02 Nov 03, 2005 02:01 PM

Hey guys,
What could I get from breeding an albino to an anery? Or an albino to an anery 100% het for albino?

How do you get snows?

Thanks!

If you breed an albino to an anery you will get double hets for both albino and anery (snow). The offspring will look normal but be carrying both traits. If those animals are bred to each other you have a chance of producing snowsas well as albinos and asnerys in the same litter. If you are to breed an albino to an albino het anery you would get albinos 50% possible het anery (snow). I hope hat helped.

IMO best pairing to get snows is a male albino het anery and a female anery het albino. This would produce on average:
25% snows
25% albino's het anery
25% anery het albino
25% normal looking het albino and het anery

This way you are not dealing with possible or percent hets, each possible outcome has it's own phenotype or visual look.

The reason I go with the male as the albino is females need to thermoregulate for the babies and I believe the albino may have a more difficult time doing that. I'll bet there are plenty of breeders out there who have bred female albino's and had no problems. Most likely due to their setups and husbandry. If the sanke is kept at the proper temps, I would think it's easier to thermoregulate.

you really want to have fun with punnet squares? I have a spreadsheet that will allow you to combine up to three traits. Any mix of recessive or dominant and will automatically give you the probabilities. email me if you want a copy.

a double het snow (het albino, het anery) x albino would give you ...
50% albino 50% het snow
50% normal 100% het albino 50% het snow
in other words half the litter would be albino and half would be normals 100% het albino and all the animals would be 50% het anery (snow).

a double het snow x double het snow would give you ...
1/16 snows
2/16 albino het anery (het snow)
1/16 albino
1/16 anery
2/16 anery het albino (het snow)
4/16 double het snow
2/16 normal
1/16 normal het albino
1/16 normal het albino

im not gonna figure out what you would call them by their phenotype (normal x% albino etc.) because thats more work then im looking to do. hope it helps.

Phenotypal data on double het for snow x double het for snow:

9/16 normal 67% het Albino and 67% het anery
3/16 albino 67% het anery
3/16 anery 67% het albino
1/16 snow

straight from my spreadsheet.....works great
