SOUTH CAROLINA LAWS QUESTION? Tort and gator

sd2fast4u Nov 03, 2005 02:11 PM

Does anyone know of any laws pertaining to keeping any types of tortoises in South Carolina? I have a friend that would also like to know if he can keep a captive born American Alligator in South Carolina? Please advise me or help direct me to the answers. Sd2fast4u@aol.com

I would doubt that anything is illegal in SC - they don't regulate wild collection at all.

Make sure to double check city and county ordinances, though.

Tortoises are allowed as long as they are not gopher tortoises or any tortoises held/obtained by violating any federal laws. Spotted turtles by permit only. Permit is currently avail at no cost. Alligators are an absolute NO! Hope this helps.......
