oh no! more eggs! help!

darkpeon Jul 22, 2003 05:05 AM

okay, i have two females and one male. they have been housed together for quite sometime, and one female recently started digging and was looking pretty fat. i moved her into her own cage and within a few hours 2 eggs appeared. Well, they sadly collapsed due to me not able to get an incubator up and running quick enough. So right now i look in the original enclosure and all the substrate is piled to one side. I went to shift it back and an egg rolled out, along with the female trying to bite me. So ive got two leopard geckos, who i assume will keep kicking out eggs over the next few months. My question is... how long does it take a leopard gecko to lay another set of eggs? I cant AFFORD an incubator at the moment... so should i be in a hurry to get one up and runing or do i have a while before i should start freaking...

thanks...

(btw.. i didnt know leopard geckos BURIED their eggs... the other one didnt... and shes on the same substrate as the first... crushed walnut shell and moss)

Hey!

Wow, you're pretty busy! It's a two-week period between laying of pairs of eggs. So, fromt he time that she layed her first pair you have two weeks until she'll lay the next two. And, yeah I have heard of them burying them sometimes so bevery careful when searching! Hope this helps!

You can gear up this incubator for probably around 10 bucks, I've used it for the past 2 years.

good luck!

Is there anyway you can change the substrate you house your leos in? Crushed walnut is really bad at least with beardies because they have sharp edges especially if they ingest it so I would imagine it's not the best for leos either. How about paper towel or slate or tiles instead?

okay went out and bought a styrofaom box... inside/outside temp/humidity reader... glass jar... and water heater. The heater says do not use on less than two gallons and my jar is One. Think thats safe? also, i checked my room, and it is 85 degress with 70-80% humidity. But that is just during the day. It drops when i turn off all of the rep lights at night. SHould i keep the inc. in the garage where the temp is constant or should i leave it in my room..?

Thanks again... ( one of many more to come )

the styrofoam insulates both ways, keeps heat in, cold out, or if its hotter in the room, it will keep the heat out.
Just let the thermostat on the heater do its job and you'll be able to keep it within 1-2º of your temp.
be sure to keep an eye on the water jug, it tends to evaporate.
good luck!
