Rough Green Mamba:

Oxyrhopus Nov 03, 2005 10:10 PM

Found this beast today. Normally they don't bite or do this but this particular Rough Green Snake was a tough character. I never touched it but only prevented it from moving away by putting my hand in its face and it kept opening its mouth at my hand but never struck or bit. I found several today, one with a bump in its belly like it just swallowed a rock. I don't know what it ate, but it felt like a shell or something?

Ive never seen one in the wild. Ive lived in new england and now florida and never seen one in the wild. Ive seen smooth green snakes in a vacant lot in a city area before in ma, but never rough green.

Candid, Are you in S. Fla? if you drive on the roads off 27 (To the west) early in the day you can't miss seeing at least a couple as they come out to bask on the dirt roads.

Candb. Go south to the palm Beach broward line (where the power pole intersect 27. Go out that raod and the dirt roads that cross it and you will see a lot of snakes. Take care though because some of the area is reservation land and F&G patrols it.
