I saw it offered on ebay, but like an idiot,I forgot to bid but it did give me a value estimate. So I went to a used book search site(PM me if you want the URL,I don't want to violate TOS),and found several copies available, and actually saved about $5 on the winning ebay bid.

Interesting stuff,it's been years since I did scientific reading, but it's coming back.....

Hey Lloyd,
I'm assuming your talking about the ebay auction I recently picked up on? The one that went for 44? Heck of a lot cheaper than last years copy that showed up on Ebay! I passed on last years, regretted it in a way. But this year when it came available after watching Ebay like a hawk for a copy to show up. I sat around and watched it as the minutes ticked by, surprised that NO one fought me for it! Thanks buddy...it's a nice copy...LOL! But I did used to do used book searches, that probably would have also turned one up, but who's got all that time? Great book, enjoy the reading!

I also see, I'm assuming it was you, bid up my copy of Proffesional Guide to Pituophis that lady had starting at .99 cents... Did you see that she's got another copy up for bid again? The great thing about Ebay is the fact that you can set a search that automatically keeps searching for any auction with whatever search words you want it to.

Hey Russell:

Yep,that was the one I had my eye on.I probably would have not forgotten to bid, but I think my ebay email reminder got lost in cyberspace somewhere.

Yeah, guilty as charged to bidding up the Guide, sorry, but she must have a lot of them, since she sold me another one at my bid price.

I think someone really needs to write an up-to-date detailed Pituophis book, similar to the one available on Elaphe. I've inquired with the booksellers at Daytona, and there is surprisingly little on the genus...

Lloyd,
what? that sneaky lady is selling copies for less behind my back? LOL! Wonder how in the world she's got all these copies! Oh well! Some of those book sellers remind me of horse traders I grew up with!!! But it's ok really, I didn't have to compete with anyone for the Stull book! *BIG GRIN* I'm just curious what the other book is all about. I knew the Stull book is the Pit Bible. So I was ready with a rather high bid at the last minute when I hit the bid button and prayed it was going to be enough cause I'd figured there was still going to be a bidding war of some sort for that copy. They are very rare!
As for someone writing a new book on Pituophis, I agree it's about time, with all the new morphs now out there, and with information scattered all over, we really could use a single source, filled with lots of pretty color pictures to boot...he he he... And of course having it be a good combination of herpetology and herpetoculture information. Truly a work, but something that would take a lot more time, and gathering of info, pictures, ect, I don't know who's got the time or money to pull it off. With the info that is out there combined with all the pics...that would be a BIG book!

Hi there,

I use Ebay to find the rare Pit books too. I picked up two books written by Klauber along with the Stull.
If I can't find one on Ebay I try Alibris. Sometimes you can get a signed copy of what you're looking for there. If nothing else, I use the prices on Alibris to judge how high I should bid on Ebay.

It's not in great shape per se, but all the info is there, and that's what really matters. Best $10 I've ever spent.

...and a lot more than I paid for my copies from the used book websites.
