Hey guys,
It's been awhile since I've been on here... too much research and teaching! Next thing you know it will be time to fatten up (I mean humans AND uros) for the holidays.
A couple of days ago I introduced my 4.5 year old male egyptian Dog and my 2 year old female egyptian Cleo on neutral grounds, which was my patio. Dog did the head bob thing but Cleo wasn't scared! She actually followed Dog around, curious to see what he was doing. Once I get a bigger tank... probably a six footer I will place them together. I don't have a tank big enough right now.. they will probably stress each other out in my 4 footer.
But everything went quite well, not much aggression. I will continue letting them roam together at least once a week so they could get used to each other.

Here's my new friend Rocksteady. He's a yearling rhinoceros iguana. He's kinda skittish when I try to take him out of the cage but is very calm once outside, he likes to hang on my shoulder or on my desk. He actually sat there and watched my prepare for my lecture today!
Cyclura are very fascinating to me (not to take anything away from the uros though). I love how their eyes are so bulgy and their unique personalities. But they get BIG!!

p.s. I named him Rocksteady because I used to watch teenage mutant ninja turtles when I was younger (Rocksteady was a half man and half rhino mutant!)

every day my patio is other occupied with Roy, my egyptians or Rocky or my roommate while he's smoking.... it needs a wash! can't wait for the rain.
phewww.... just wanted to say hi to everyone that i know and to all the NEW forum members.

Dog and his lovely lady Cleo look great together, Loving egyptians, I sure hope all goes well and they mate soon

And Rocksteady is a AWE$SOME guy, , looks to be in tip top condition. Yep, they sure get big and AMAZINGLY COOL.

On the Iggie forum there are alot of really experienced wonderful people. One being JiffyPop, she knows her iggs, and had=s many of the BIGGIES !

Best Wishes with the new guy! Post pics once in awhile, love to see him GROW, LOL

Roy looks great also, nice to see him again too!

Hey Eve, good to hear from you! Cleo's got at least a year to catch up with Dog before I let them try to breed but I know Dog's definately ready... his throat turns jet black.

Btw, has Cleo ever hibernated? Dog's been in his hide for at least 2-3 days now and hasn't touched his food. I kinda peeked in this morning to see if he was okay and I got a quick tail whip and bird seed in my face... so I guess he's fine. Maybe he's hibernating?

Yeah, I've been researching on rhino igs for the past couple months and I've gotten advice from jiffy, carole and manny from the ig forum. Very helpful and informative. I hope Rocky gets used to me. His previous owner used to "grab" and restrain him from above when he went to pick him up... resulting in a defensive posture, gaping of the mouth and tail whipping. Yesterday I petted Rocky for a couple of minutes and he let me pick him up from underneath with no problem.

Herps are so addicting! I can't wait until I graduate and move out of my apartment and into my own house.... then I finally get to dedicate a room to my herps.

Take care!

Seems we have similar tastes in the reptiles we enjoy keeping. Those are my Egyptians in the photo at the top of the forum. I just purchased another, a hatchling, at the Chicago show last month. You've seen one of my Tegus and several of my Cyclura. I also keep a few monitor species, several Ctenosaura species, DI's, and Chucks. In rescue we have Malis, Beardies, Leopard gex, and many other lizards. We always seem to have a couple of dozen boas around also.

Keep the photos of your Uros coming, also the Rhino. I love looking at other folks herps!!

nice blue tegus you have there. i know this is the uro forum, but I was wondering if you could give me some advice regarding substrate for my yearling rhino. right now he's on orchid bark and seems fine but i'm worried about him ingesting the bark and i feed him in a big plate to prevent this.

i don't want to use newspaper because i know he'll just tear it up and keep going under it.

maybe i should try rabbit pellets?

thanks
tristan

here's a pic of him head bobbing. is this a show of dominance?

Personally, I use heavy white paper for substrate. It does get torn up sometimes but if you provide some hides your Rhino shouldn't feel compelled to burrow under it. Carole has used hay for substrate for Diego and it seemed to work pretty well. I'm not sure how you'd keep it clean.

If your little Rhino was headbobbing in his enclosure that is his way of letting you know that that is his territory and he doesn't like to be bothered there. Rhino headbobs are quite unique and I love watching them.

hey vonnie,
yeah, i'm teaching a precalculus course here at UCI. i figured that i can let the kids out while i'm working but they sometimes get irritated when i'm not giving them attention.... can't have me all to themselves! afterall, i've gotta bring home the bacon to keep them fed and happy. LOL.... and i'm not even married! but i consider it as training for the day when i have kids.
how are your uros doing?

they are all doing well. still trying to get the new ones used to me but haven't had a good chance yet because i have to take my masters test next friday so all i do is study! and feed them of course, but not much handling.
helga and hugo have been sleeping alot the last couple days. i don't know if they ever got up today, they weren't awake when i left this morning and they aren't awake now. i guess they just have the winter laziness
