This article says that wilted red maple leaves are toxic to horses:

Oak leaves are often listed as toxic but I havn't noticed Maple
leaves on any of the lists I've seen.

I have heard that ash leaves are fine and know someone that feeds them to his torts every fall.

Cheers,

Jbly

There's this thing called the INTERNET, and you can go there and use a SEARCH ENGINE, and when you type in words like "tortoise" and "toxic" and "maple" you find things.

The only thing I could come up with was this:

www.anapsid.org/resources/edible.html which I think states that people have seen reptiles eat maple leaves with no observed problems.

I also found websites that indicate that red maple only causes problems with horses. And a few websites that say it's horse and zebras. And another that says it has been found to harm alpacas, which are related to camels, not horses.
