Upgrading the tank to 40 gal breeder. What are the necessary heating elements for that size?

We are going to get a new tank for my son's corn. I don't want the petstore guy to tell us we need something that we may not need. I know I cannot use the heat pad that we have on our small tank. What size should we get? I have a heat lamp with 25 watt basking bulb on the warm side. Do I need a higher watt bulb for the tank?

An undertank heating pad for a 30 gallon tank and your 25 watt bulb should be sufficient. Make sure you keep a thermometer on the substrate directly below and the temperature doesn't go past 85 or so.

You can forego the undertank and just upgrade the bulb.

I have a 60W on a 5 gallon tank and it keeps it at a comfortable 82-85 deg consistently on the warm side and mid-70's on the cool side. When the room gets cooler in the Winter, I may go up to a 75W or get a regulator.
