Feeding a breeding female?

foxfeather Nov 04, 2005 03:45 PM

I have a question for everyone -
This is my first year/first attempts at breeding ball pythons, and I have a very large female (she's never been bred) that I started cooling a week ago (unplugging her heat tape at night so it gets to room temp in her enclosure - about 72 degrees). I offered her a rat yesterday and she took it with gusto; my question is, do you keep cooling right after they eat? I am worried it may be bad for her to be digesting food when it's that cool in her cage all night, are my worries justified?
What do you guys do in regards to feeding/breeding temps?

Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it!

I keep right on feeding through breeding season. Don't give huge meals though, because of the digestion issues.

During the day I have a hot spot over my heat tape that is 90 degrees and my room temp is 80.

At night over my heat tape is about 75-80 and my room temp is 70. I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Christy

I was figuring most people kept the cooling going on at night regardless of feeding, I just wanted to be sure!
Thanks so much for your answer!
