I live near Baton Rouge and have heard good things about the LSU Vet School. Many of the snake people in this area take their snakes to the vet school and say that the vet school is the best place in the area for treatment.

You might also want to check the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians (http://www.arav.org/). Generally, a group like this will have branches at universities with vet schools that specialize in reptiles. You could look for people in your state who are members and see whether any of them are associated with a university.

Another way of finding schools that focus on reptiles would be to find any university with a good library and look at the journals dealing with zoology and herpetology. Professors who are studying anything will try to publish their results in the professional journals. At the beginning of each article in the journal, the authors and their addresses will be listed. The universities where they do their research will be listed in their addresses. If you go through about two or three years of journal articles, you'll get a feel for which universities have the most active programs. If you're strong enough in science to understand the articles, you'll even get a feel for which places and which professors are doing the kind of research that would interest you.

If you can't get to a university with a good library, you might check your veterinarian's office. He or she probably gets some professional journals and might be willing to let you borrow some old copies. Even if your vet isn't interested in reptiles, he may receive a journal that runs some snake articles.

I wish you well with it.

Bill
