RIP SENEGAL

noodletuesday Nov 05, 2005 06:06 PM

thank you guys so much for your advice and tips but unfortunaelty as we all suspected it was too late. like i mentioned before when i got him i couldnt find barely any information on senegals. i only wish id had talked to you guys before! i do know now for sure that he had some kind of parasite. when i found him he was purple and green, uneven blotchy spots. upon further inspection, i noticed a hole in his leg and out crawled a worm. i dont know what kind or anything, but it looked very similiar to a mealworm only lighter and a little fatter. chameleo (that was his name obviously based on his genus, i just thought it sounded cute) will be buried behind my house by the pond tonight. im really sad but ive already shed lots of tears for him. i work at a pet store and i own over 60 reptiles/amphibians myself and i still get so sad when anything dies. its like you take care of them everyday, feed them, watch them grow and change and interact with you and their surroundings, theyre all so amazing, and losing them is the hardest part of caring about them. im thinking of getting a little baby veiled, i know a decent amount about them, and these ones are for sure captive bred. maybe after i move i can find a reptile vet i can trust instead of the money hungry ones here like the one my work goes through. thank you all again for you advice.................renee

Sorry to hear your sad news. WC chameleons are not easy to have survive. I'm sure he will be in your heart forever.

I have no idea what the worm could have been....there are too many possibilities to guess.

I hope you will have good luck with a veiled if you get one.

I'm very sorry to hear the bad news about your chameleon. Even when we see it coming, it doesn't lessen the pain, feelings of guilt, and sorrow.
Chameleons are so different from other herps, their care and husbandry demands far exceed most others. We tend to be more understanding in this forum when losses occurr. Much less finger pointing; rather we try to look at every loss as an important 'lessons learned' opportunity: what can we learn from our loss that might help us and others in the future. This may not help your lost friend, but maybe, just maybe, we might be able to take what we've learned and apply it as to avoid another tragedy.
Again, my condolenses and sympathies for your loss.
