Tarahumara Mountain Kingsnake Questions...

morgan_so_cal Nov 05, 2005 07:24 PM

I've recently obtained 2 Knoblochi juvies-3 months old. Both are eating live pinks. Temps are good also

Question:
When are they most active? I can't find any husbandry info specific to them. Mine seem to only come out after lights go out. I thought, being a montane species, they would be diurnal...?

Any help would be appreciated.

Mine almost never use hides, so I just throw some flagstone pieces around, they like to relate to the sides of the rocks. They are pretty active for most of the day. They also don't like it warm, mine seem to stay in spots of the enclosure where temps are low to mid 70's! I have never seen them spend time on the warm spots (80-85 degrees). I feed about every ten days, they like smaller sized meals, and they occasionally don't feel like eating. They get cranky about eating if I keep them on newspaper as opposed to cypress (probably the drop in humidity). They are growing slowly, steadily, are very healthy and stunning to look at. They have also tamed a lot, they are not jumpy at all. I think they are very rewarding to keep.

just the observations of my snakes.

thanks for the input. Yeah, I've noticed how they dont like the heat very much. I've completely lost the basking lamp. Ive been leaving the undertank heater on and have placed 2 large pieces of red slate to dissipate heat on the one side. Ive tried to get 'em to take frozen/thawed but to no evail. When I try the brown bag method, he just spends the entire time looking for a way out, then leaves a poo in there. Maybe as they get older, it will be easier with fuzzies.
