ultrasonic fogger question.

iceyesnteeth Nov 05, 2005 09:03 PM

i just installed a new exoterra ultrasonic fogger in my green tree python enclosure to help keep the humidity up and it did for about a week, then it crapped out.i did some reading online and have read tons of bad reviews that state this product is a piece of junk.i remember reading the paperwork that it came with really quick and it says that if the indicator light is on,and its not producing fog, then the membrain is bad and it needs to be replaced(at least i think thats what it said)anyway, the indicator light is not on,i plug it in and nothing.im thinking that since the light is not on then it must be something other than that cheap replacement part.anyway,i threw out the paperwork like an idiot,so i have no idea how to even replace the part just to give it a shot, and i have no contact info for the company.does anyone have a suggestion on what it could be if the light doesnt light up and no fog is produced??maybe a website for exoterra, where i may be able to download these instructions??i threw out my receipt,so i cant even exchange it at the store i bought it from.ideas?

if you end up not being able to fix it, a humidifier for people can be purchased for about the same around $30. you can then use some sort of tubing or piping to send the humid air into the cage. will work much better (and last longer) then the fogger and be just a little bit more money.

thanks jay, thats a good idea and i have heard of people using them before.just 2 questions(i dont think i am going to be able to fit it so) does using a people humidifier offer the same fog effect on the floor of the cage?? and do you know any websites that describe how to rig it to the tubing??thanks again

The problem with the fogger you have is that there has to be enough water for the fogger to be activated. And you can't have the water level more than a few inches above fogger to get the effect. You will always have to keep filling it up. This is OK but after a while it becomes a pain. Plus sometimes I am gone for a week and won't be able to keep filling it up.

The people humidifier does produce a fog effect, but it doesn't just stay a floor level, it fogs the whole cage. Besides I don't think the fogger you have can maintain humidity at the level you will need for your GTP. For my GTP's and White Lipped Pythons I use the "people" humidifier. I purchased a few at Walmart for $30.00 each and then purchased some tubing and a couple of sprinker fittings to fit the output from the humidifier and pipe it into the cage. I have it set on a cycle timer. This maintains the humidity at just the right level. You will have to experiment on how often to have the cycle timer go off based on how well your enclosure holds humidity. Once you get it down, basically you fill the tank and your off.

I have linked a picture of one of my setups. Hope this helps.
