First, let me say that I am sorry that you got your snake from that chain of stores. They used to be much more knowledgeable in the past, and I even supplied them with most, if not all, if their corns for a few years, but I haven't produced anything for them the last two seasons.
I don't know who their supplier is now, or at least, I don't know where the butter came from, but I do know that they get their snakes two different ways. They buy from local vendors like me, and I know most of them. But they also order from their central headquarters, and those snakes can be from anyone. Since the people I know around here, who sell to that chain, don't breed butters, I suspect your animal came from another region of the country. I could be wrong, and there could be someone breeding butters that I don't know, but I doubt it.
That chain store has its ups and downs like any other. Right now, they have a lot of people in there that don't know what they're doing. The other day I went in for some crickets, and I noticed that they were having trouble getting a cornsnake to eat for them. I also noticed that it had two kingsnakes next to it, one on each side. I told them that kings were natural predators of corns, and that if they moved the corn out from between them, the stress reduction might be enough for it to eat. They had no clue, but when they moved the snake, everything was fine.
I do recall one of the stores (I believe it was the one on Kansas Expressway and Kearney) that had a butter for sale, but I was suspicious that it even was a butter, so I asked to see it. Turns out, it wasn't eating for them at all, so I told them that butters are notorious lizard eaters, and maybe they should try scenting the pinkies for a while. Again...clueless, but I thought it was going well for them. Maybe that was a clutchmate of yours?
If you want, I can ask around to see if anyone knows anything, and perhaps get you in touch with the breeder, if it IS someone around here I don't know. Otherwise, the best I can do is try to get you in touch someone who might be able to make you a deal on a new HEALTHY snake.
