Breeding Leopards

weevax65 Jul 22, 2003 09:32 AM

How easy is it to breed leos? I heard that all you need to do is to get 1 male and about 5 females, but I'm not sure about this. Any thought? I have a leo that I've had for about 2 years, and I think it's ready to breed. I don't know what gender it is though, so any tips on sexing? Thanks

They are pretty much easy to breed. The male will have two bulges right at the base of the tail and a row of small pores slightly above this that form a v shape kinda right between the legs. Look through the forum somebody has some pics posted somewhere is the easiest way to tell.

Hey!

Like Geeboo said they are easy to breed. A male will mate with up to 10 females, I've heard! They don't need a cooling period or anything so, you've picked the right lizard to breed. Be sure you're females are at LEAST 60 grams. Some people do it at lower grams and have success, but you're females will lose considerable weight and Calcium. So, be sure to supplement them everyday during pregnancy(Offering pinkies occasionally is a great bonus for them! Helps alot.). And again, as Geeboo stated.. look for two bulges and an upside-down "V" row of pre-anal pores! Good luck and have fun!

You only need one male and one female...not many females. Breeding leos is pretty easy as long as you have researched it well before you attempt it. As for sexing your leo, male leos have a pair of bulges (hemipenes) at the base of their tale and a V shaped live of tan femoral pores right by their vent. Females lack the bulges and their pores are almost invisible.
