I still like that patternless one. :P

I wonder exactly what morph it would be referred to as, considering the actual melanistics are jet black instead of brown.

I have an adult female GA eastern king that looks similar to that. She's my only king that still eats LOL. Still has quite the feeding response too.

Yes, a N.Fla or a N.Fla.-X-S.Ga. ask Jason.

JetZen... i really don't think that those cali kings even the patternless would be considered a mutation... i think they all are normals... but i guess you won't know till you test breed them... either way they are killer snakes, and Mike said Melanistics are JET BLACK... i gotta disagree b-cuz cali kings that are considered melanistics are not JET BLACK

I think the name Chocolate suits these snakes either way (morph or Normal)

Melanistics are JET BLACK. It's just you see so little TRUE melanistic cali kings in the hobby that you forget what is and isn't melanistic. What Kerby has.... MENDOTAS, are a brownish/black color with visible bands. By definition those are NOT melanistic. They have got to be a form of melanism, because if bred with albinos, and double hets bred back to each other they produce blizzards....

I have rarely see any pics online of actual melanistics... But have several pictures of them in books.

Melanistics are underlooked because they are jet black and a black snake in general is "ugly" to those who like snakes with "pretty colors". If you do see them for sale, they are the product of blizzard X blizzard cali king, and are often labeled as "Hets" or "Chocolates" by those who don't know better.

"any" darkness of the skin, hair or eyes, resulting from high pigmentation.

ZFelicien Nov 06, 2005 04:20 PM

i can't wait till you breed the two lightest "milk chocolate" ones.... you know i want a pattern less! the breeder that has the original pair didn't come through for me...
