Heating plywood cages?

ttreptile1 Jul 22, 2003 09:40 AM

For those of you who make your own cages from plywood, how are you heating them? I am wondering the heat contuctivity of 3/4" plywood (using flexwatt) and if it would be effective in heating a 48x24x24 python cage. What are my options? Thanks for any help!

I'm building a similar size plywood cage and had researched the forums several months ago about this topic. General concensus seems to be flexwatt isn't very good at heating THROUGH plywood. It's OK if you waterproof it somehow and put it in the cage under the substrate but other wise it's best used in rack systems, under plastic tubs, or under glass terrariums. I'm going to use a ceiling mounted radiant heat panel with a Big Apple thermostat - pricier than flexwatt for sure but should give me a wide range of precise heat control. Good luck!!
