Question about veiled coloration...

waspinator421 Nov 06, 2005 08:09 PM

I was wondering how old a male baby veiled usually is when he starts to get coloration. I was browsing some photos and saw a brilliant 9 mo. old, and a stunning 14 mo. old. Mine is about 4 months now and still is just light green, but he gets really spotty when upset. Mine was just from a pet store and so I realize that he may not be as bright as some, but I will love him just the same. I am only curious as to what I might be able to expect from my little guy. Here are pics of him at rest, and all fired up (they are from a month ago). Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

It really varies and has a lot to do with heredity and general health. I wouldn't expect to see adult coloration for at least 8 months, and often veileds go through a "brown phase" at about 5-6 months. I think they often start showing some adult pattern when they are asleep...sort of a preview. Brightness and color intensity may reflect general health and your good care.
