Curious Ball

zookeepnhippie Nov 07, 2005 09:38 AM

My wife was on the computer with Sid (our male bp) around her neck. when I walked into the room he was stretched out from her shoulder and his head was halfway through the ferret cage! Looking for a meal? Glad we'll never know.

LOL, A ferret might be a little large for a ball, but the pic was cute.

oh i dunno...i have a few females here that could take one down.lol

...used to have a few ferrets years ago....spiteful,twisted little thieves(tv/stereo remotes, wallets, car keys,unmentionables,etc)...but they lived long and happy lives nonetheless.

You never know, that ball may just be looking for a new friend to love and hug and sqeeze! Your wife might want to be careful. It could get a wiff of the ferret and mistakenly squeeze her instead!

I think that you should be happy the ferret didnt want to use the ball as a chew toy, those lovable little carpet sharks(i have 2) are totally different when given a live playtoy, I have made the mistake of having an adult corn snake and a ferret cross paths while cleaning the snake cage, one of the corns got out and my ferret was out of the cage at the time, then i saw the ferret with the snake head in his mouth the corn was almost four feet long, I dont know for sure but I think that a ferret could take a ball python, probably not a large female(hopefully no one will ever find out), I also remeber reading in a reptiles magazine that pythons wont look at a ferret as food, because ferrets dont have any dander that pythons associate with rodents, sound weird but does it make any sense?

Yeah,that's a good one.

They couldn't turn on the linoleum floor for crap though.
Mine were always doing 540's when they tried to turn left into the kitchen.

One of the ferrets in there would probably be possibe for an adult ball to get down. She is only a few months old, well probably 6-7 now, but if there are burms eating crocs, i think a ball could easily muster a ferret, just not a full grown one. The question is would they even try, and i dont really think so. The ferrets are always really curious about the snakes though, any time they see them, they start trying to jump up into my arms to "play" with them.

bps516 Nov 07, 2005 01:35 PM

I am sure they would not think the snake is food, but I am not going to find out! LOL! I love the picture! It is funny how curious they are.

I dont know, they do try to get their teeth around them. Like i said they jump up to try to get to them, they do that with their mouths open. I think if given the chance they would go to town on a snake.

ginebig Nov 07, 2005 05:46 PM

Americas version of a mongoose maybe?

Quig

nogard Nov 07, 2005 10:04 PM

Domestic ferrets are basically a domestic european polecat, which as far as I know are close cousins to the mongoose, but I may be wrong, but like 15 years ago a ferret farm in the midwest had a bunch of their adults get out, and had a devastating effect on the wild bird population in the town they were located in.

If I remember right I seem to think I saw a picture of a snake mauled by a ferret in one of the reptile books I have around. I think it was in the book "Whats wrong with my snake" in the section along with all the mice/rat left in the cage overnite wounds. I remember thinking how would that meeting happen? The snake looked like an ear of corn after someone was done eating it. On the brite side it is a pretty good book to help you explain to your vet what you need if there isnt a herp vet near you.

nogard Nov 08, 2005 07:43 PM
