CheriS - Yellow Fungus question

veronicag Jul 22, 2003 10:06 AM

I came home yesterday and was horrified to find out that my husband had let Mo out, our dragon with the contagious Yellow Fungus, with Ojay, our healthy male. I know the Yellow Fungus is contagious, but do you know how contagious it is? Ojay did come into contact with Mo. We usually keep our dragons separated, but for some reason my husband had them both out at the same time and they were running around the floor. Ojay jumped at the chance to get at Mo and got on her back. Then he kind of bit at the nape of her neck. He didn't hurt her, but I'm afraid that he will get the fungus too. The area where he was nipping at her could have a little bit of the yellow discoloration/fungus... Should I be worried?

Thanks for all your help CheriS. You've been a wonderful friend through all of this.

Mix betadine with water to the color of weak tea, dip the dragon in it for a few minutes (keep the area ventilated so the dragon does not breathe in the smell) make sure you pour some of the mixture over the area bite, then rinse the dragon well.

If you have nolvasan you can use that too for a dip. It is fairly contagious, dragons in the same enclosure almost always get it, ones that were occassionaly around each other have not always got it, but we know several cases of them contacting it from one breeding also.

The fact that Mo is being treated and responding well, is in your favor, it may not be active.
