2 part question.

iceyesnteeth Nov 07, 2005 10:23 AM

the tank i built, has all walls, floor and ceiling made of glass.it features a glass sliding front door as well, but since i was unable to find the sliding glass door hardware,i kinda made my own with plastic molding.it works ok but id would like to eventually install the proper one but have no idea where to buy it.i tried home depot and lowes.my second question is also in regard to my sliding front door.when i close the door, there is a gap in the glass(about 1/4 inch) on both the right and left sides.not nearly large enough for my snake to escape, but plently big for tons of humidity loss.id like a suggestion on how to fill the gap,but still have my setup look halfway decent.like i said my whole cage is made of glass,so if i filled the gap with something that is not transparent,it may look bad.anyway, thanks for the help.

I assume that was your first question, any glass place should, if not on hand be able to order the slider set. Its essential two plastic "W's" One of course deeper tan the other. You can order it online but I forgot the website.

my second question is also in regard to my sliding front door.when i close the door, there is a gap in the glass(about 1/4 inch) on both the right and left sides.not nearly large enough for my snake to escape, but plently big for tons of humidity loss.id like a suggestion on how to fill the gap,but still have my setup look halfway decent.like i said my whole cage is made of glass,so if i filled the gap with something that is not transparent,it may look bad.anyway, thanks for the help.

I said before you can use the double sided foam tape but you would see it. Other option would be weather stripping but you could see that too. You could take a small thin strip of clear acrylic and glue it to the outside piece of glass. On the end so it would be an "L" pointing to the inside piece that would close the gap not totally but enough.

I would go with a drop down door with tight clearences that would hold the humidity in best.

The glass track is at Home Depot. It is unfortunately something a majority of the employees are clueless about. I have always found it in a stand up display with them kept vertically in the plexi glass/glass isle. There are a few websites that sell it also if you still can't locate it at any local to you stores.

yea thanks guys,i agree that my sliding door design, even if it did have a smaller gap,is not the best idea for high humidity eviornments but whats done is done and im not ready to do any major changes yet as i just recently finished the cage and used up most of my spare time.i like the idea of glueing the plexiglass strips but would rather glue some sort of clear strip that wasnt so hard, maybe something softer like rubber.you know what i mean??something that would create a better seal when shut.any ideas???i wish they sold something like clear rubber mats ,where i could cut thin strips and seal the gaps.i used to have a clear mouse pad that would have worked but is wasnt long enough and i dont know where it is anyway,.
