Got three PTS! Question, too

cs_johnson Nov 07, 2005 10:52 AM

I got three beautiful PTS the other day. Arrived from a 1 hour flight, and seem to be aclimating well. 2 females, and 1 male. They've got such personality! They're my first PTS.

I have noticed that the 2 females make a very, very slight whisleing/wheezing sound when I pick them up. This does not occur when they are at rest, just when I pick them up which I have done twice, each. The male I have not yet handled... he's more reclusive. The stress of being handled makes them breathe heavily. Is this a sign of a respiratory infection or merely the combined affects of the various stresses they've undergone?

I plan to leave them alone for acouple of weeks to aclimate, but I hesitate to do so if they have an infection. FYI the temperature is 85 at the top, 75 at the bottom, and humidity fluxuates from 85-50. They've been eating well.

I find that all four of mine tend to wheeze when stressed. I would watch them carefully over the next few days for nasal discharge, lethargy and poor appetite. If you see any of that or the wheezing doesn't seem to go away as they acclimate it's probably vet time.

i also have a PTS that is the most AMAZING reptile i have ever owned. he/she also makes a little wheeze noise but has no nasal discharge etc. so maybe that's just a noise they make? congrats on the trio!

I just had all three in for a physical. They're all in good health. The doc didn't think anything of the noises they made. Must be normal. Thanks for the responses.
