Please help - Cory's injuring himself

niki_athena Nov 07, 2005 02:29 PM

Hello,

Cory likes to rest his long toes and claws on his calf muscle area and his has a little bloody gash on one of his legs, and he still put his little toe there! I trimmed the toenail a little, but what else should I do?

I'll try and check soon, but I'm going to be gone for a couple of days.

Thanks,

if it is pretty deep, you may need to keep him on paper towels, well this is if you keep him on sand. i have used neosporin and diluted betadine on lizard injuries before.
just some other things to consider, are you sure there is nothing sharp in the cage?
there aren't any stray crickets in there that could have munched on his leg, is there?

Another thing that works well with open wounds - particularly if they are clean, uninfected, and open all the way down to muscle, is "liquid skin". I used this recently on a snake and was amazed how well it worked!

He's kept on rocks with his wood den.

The gash is not deep, and was pretty much clean looking and scabbed over. He is acting normal.

Thanks,
