New Morph

bigeasyreptiles Nov 07, 2005 06:56 PM

We got a suprise from a pair of our line bred Snows this year. Two of the eight offspring that they produced hatched out with totally black eyes. Since there were two offspring exhibiting the same trait, I am fairly certain that this is genetic. The photo is of a black eyed snow and a normal eyed sibling. The are obviously not Super Mack Snows and the Eclipse gene has only been associated with Striped Geckos.

Dose he/she have some type of strpe just look like he/she may maybe a dorsal stripe ? that a stripe down the spine this brakes the banding but dose't really affect the pattern(if you know what i mean).there dose seem to be a link with black eyes and stripes i know yours are line snows but macks can have black eye coz 9 times out of ten they are carrying the super macks gene. You may also find this interesting i found a normal leo that is striped that has black eyes click the link it should work.I hatched a blizzard this year but with i being blizzard it hard to tell but when she goes dark you can see two fant strate pin lines in her tail so may she is ?.so maybe atchal stripes (can have black eye and leo with stripe history can maybe have black eyes also.Maybe the back eye macks, super macks, raptors are the same gene and it is the stanes just stripes that give them black eyes ??.

Sorry to bust your bubble but they arent new morphs. Although they are nice snows. Some leos have totally black eyes and some have the normal eyes. This occurs a lot in blizzards but can also happen in snows like what happened with yours.

So, according to you, Ron Trempers new Eclipse morph, Is not actually a new morph at all, but just a naturally occuring variation in eye color?

BlueLeo Nov 11, 2005 10:12 PM

No, if you read his site the new morph is, and i quote from the site, "ECLIPSE. This exciting new morph expresses the gene for all black-eyes. ECLIPSE hatch with and retain totally black eyes throughout their lives. Their typical pattern is a series of longitudinal rows of black spots or dashes with white feet, lips and nose with freckling while the body is yellow and often combined with a carrot-tail. Some ECLIPSE have greatly reduced body spotting. To date, their have been no jungle phase or banded phase ECLIPSE producced suggesting that there may be a genetic link or gene combination occurring between the eye color and pattern. Additionally, the thinking at this time, is that the ECLIPSE/RAPTOR is not related genetically to the Super Snows. However, many people think that crossing the ECLIPSE/RAPTOR with a Mack Super Snow will be an interesting experiment. I agree."
