I have tubs that I ordered from reptile tubs dot com for my big girls,They measure 54in/20in/15in tall! They hold heat an humidity great as do all steralite type tubs but I am worried about weather I have enough ventalation holes!I know if I put too many in I'll loose my heat an humidity! But I don't want to harm my boa's eaither!I used a medium type phillips and melted 8 holes along the top on bothe ends an 18 holes along the top on both sides an well when I raise the lid I get hit right in the face with alot of heated air,This tells me I need a few more but the question is how many more an should I still keep them along the top or mid ways? Thanks for any help in advance!Eric [Hypoboa]

Drill more then you think you will need. Then cover some up with tape and see where it gets you. Put a hygrometer in one to see where the humidity level is sitting.

I got some .1" thick expanded PVC from a sign shop and cut some strips from it. Using 2 pieces of double-back tape on each side of a plastic strip, I covered a row of holes on a tub that I wanted less ventilation in. This was during the drier part of our year (Winter has the least humidity in our house.)

When the ambient humidity in our house increased later in the year, I simply removed the plastic strip. Worked very well.

You are always wise to design some variable control in your cages. Ventilation is one such parameter that can be adjusted as conditions in your house change.

Everything to look a certain way an I dont Want to mess up an enclosier by adding to many holes into it an it look tacky!I believe I was just worrying a bit too much over it anyway! It must be ok,because the male an female that are in it as we speak are going at it very hot an heavy, lol! So it must be ok!Those that know me well know I go a bit over board with worrying over my boa's!But what can I say,I love my animals an Id rather be a bit over precautios[sp?]Than to do somthing foolish or dumb an hurt them! Thanks for the opinions though!Eric[Hypoboa]

What does it matter what it looks like? If looks had anything to do with it, you wouldn't be using the cheapest cages you can buy. Not having enough holes is going to cause way more problems than having too many. If you are getting bursts of hot air out of your tubs, then your thermostat must not be working right. I don't think the trial and error part should be done with snakes in the cages either. It doesn't sound a bit over precautios to have snakes in a cage while you are trying to adjust temperature and humidity. It sounds lazy and careless. To come here and ask questions, and then mock the one piece of sound advice you are given is down right disrespectful.
