"any sugestions besides take to vet to help"

Why, have you already done this?

If not, my suggestion would be to take him to a vet or at least provide a fresh fecal sample for analysis. The primary reasons for slow growth rate are improper temperatures, diet, and parasites. Take a very close look at all three.

parasites, worms. People WILL say go to the vet, because the first thing that would have to be done would be a fecal to check for worms.

When ever an animal is lethargic, or eating and getting thinner, it certainly CAN be symptoms of parasites present.

Hope you can get him straightened out soon. Don't wait to long as they get to a point and go down hill quick The fact he wants to eat and eats well is a good thing, just have to have him checked out.

Let us know how he does!

not sure why you don't want a vet as a recommendation, but if you don't think there are any in the area, you could try this website to see if maybe there are some listings near you. this is by no means a complete list but it could help you.

also if there really are no herp vets near you, parasites happen in all animals so any vet could always do a fecal for you. if the vet doesn't know any other vets to call to ask for medicine and dosage recommendations, you could tell him to read the site below as a guide

if it is a parasite, it won't just go away

does he have runny, really smelly poop?
