A kick back to food

eunectes4 Nov 08, 2005 04:10 AM

I was very hesitant to revert back to any other feeding strategy beyond positioning and conditions but afte getting a weight on the 2.5 year old female green of 1933 grams I really did not want her refusing any more meals. She ate incredible in June and started tapering off her shed early august. The meals she would take were even smaller. So I decided to take an old day old f/t chick and scent a 90-100g rat i already had thawed out. Boy did this kick her back into gear. My shy anaconda who will leave food with the lightest disturbance took a meal from my hand again. Whe even whipped around and came toward me the second I entered her big cage with the tiny items scented with one of her favorite foods of the past. (nothing showed as much interest as the way she perked up when a garter snake would dart accross her turf..but she eats chicks pretty well). We will see if this kicks her back into gear of eating rats again or if it will make her want more fowl. Who knows ... but I am glad my prediction worked and she has food in her stomach. Shoot 1933 grams, I have ball pythons the same age weighing almost 500g more than that!

not dangerously so. I would expect a green of this length to weigh 2500 to 3000 g. Sounds like you have a good chance of putting mass back on her without too much trouble. Thanks,

Kelly
