What is the difference bewteen Marine toads and Rococco's???

JustinM. Nov 08, 2005 12:13 PM

I know "marine" toad is a family of toads that are very large. I also know Rococco's inhabit South America (Surinam area?). My question is............how can I tell if my toad is a Rococco or just a common "marine" toad wild caught from Florida???

Also, are Rococco's the largest species of toad in the world.............or, is it the "marine"/cane toad?

Any help clarrifying the common names, natural range and species identification is a big help. Thanks!

That's a VERY good question...

Hmm. I believe there are documents of Marine toads (I saw a HUGE one on Frogland's Frog of the month) of them reaching 13" SVL, like a goliath frog!!! :O

However, there is some speculation that these giants are really Roccoccos, mistaken for Marine toads....

I am not sure myself. I would really love to know....
I guess it also depends on where the toads have been collected to really know for sure.
