Bufo viridis care

pitcherplant7 Nov 08, 2005 12:50 PM

Can somebody tell me the care requirements for...

either the Egyptian or the European/ Russian subspecies?

I personally think they would need a relatively cool temp like many toads, but I could be wrong.

You find any care info please let me know. I posted the same question back in Sept but got no replies. I have 6 of them. I keep them in a 20 long tank with a gravel bottom covered with layers of non-fertilized soil and peat moss(alternately layered) then for the top I have live carpet moss. It also has 2 small philodendron plants and a live moss & fern log. For hides I'm using 2 4" diameter plastic plant pots turned upside down and a small section cut out for entrances. I'm using a shallow 1 1/4" high oval corningware dish as a waterbowl. I use a small 1/2"-5/8" lid to contain waxworms & mealies(they congregate by this) and the roaches I feed run amuck in the tank so they can get some hunting exercise, LOL. I'll show you a pic of my set up before I got the live carpet moss & moss/fern log

As far as I know, the care is basically the same as any old Bufo, which should be easy info to find on the net. So just go to google and search for "Egyptian toad care", "Bufo care", "toad care", or something similar. You should get plenty of info.

I keep 2 Bufo viridis. They're 2 of my favorite toads! There's a good Brititsh website W/ care info @ www.pollywog.co.uk/caresheets.html. LOL!
