Flex Watt question about connection and puncture

rottenweiler9 Nov 08, 2005 04:41 PM

Hello, Can I still use the flex watt if where the clips went into the copper part has a hole in it because the clip slid on it or do I need to get a whole new one.

Thank you

Jeff

do you mean the copper has a hole in it?
if it is making a connection then it should be fine, just make sure you cover everything up either with the plastic clips or electrical tape. you could also just cut the piece just after that part and try again with connecting the wires.

Ya it is the copper part, and its covered by the plastic clip, so you think that will be OK.

it should be fine. how bad the hole is will determine how bad the connection is. if the hole is not too bad then the connection should be fine and you should have no problems. just make sure you check it every now and then to make sure it is still heating up. if it stops heating up you know the connection is bad at that spot and you can cut a strip off the tape and try again.

as long as it is insulated (all the metal parts are covered by something not exposed) then it shouldnt. you should also have it on a dimmer or a thermostat to prevent it from getting too hot.

Thank you for your help. Its in my basement so I dont use a dimmer because its cold down there and the temp needs to stay high.

Thanks Again

just make sure it is not getting too hot. although you may need high temps, the heat tape may be getting to be over 100 degrees which could cause burns. if not using a dimmer, just mkae sure the temps are not exceeding the desired temps of the hot spot.
