Deodorizers

wertsa Nov 08, 2005 05:53 PM

Is there any way to make my ball python room not smell? I have six snakes in a small bedroom and by the end of the week, the room reeks! I clean the enclosures once a week, but the smell comes back once one of them does its business. Is there any other way to rid the smell other than cleaning up every day? Do items like deodorizer pouches or sprays help? Could someone point me in the right direction toward a better smelling room. Thanks.

This thing works great!!!!!!!!!

I use one in the rat room and one in the snake room, and no smell at all, in either one.

I was thinking and this is the 2nd time I have recommended something from wormsway, and some might think I work for them or something. No I don't, it's just there is one less then a block from my home, and It's nice store, with a lot of goodies.

Considering most air deodirisers are toxic to snakes (oust, lysol definatly) I wouldn't use them. If you replace the bedding with say newspaper, paper towels,and/aspen then everthing should be swell. Newspaper absorbs and doesn't stink. Try that aproach, it may not be beautiful but it sure is easy.

I already use newspaper as substrate and I change it once a week. I also scrub the cage down with "Quat Plus" reptile cleaning spray each week. Still reeks when the snakes do their business. Would an item like this work?

I don't get it, snakes don't really have an oder thats unbearable. They must be deficating huge poop for it to smell, maybe feeding them less would work? That air thing that bighaze mentioned look like it would work great. Even though its a 150 bucks but you get what you pay for.

I was using one to help control my stinky mice colonies smell. The down side is they have to be reactivated by putting them out in the sunlight for a day about once a week. That's not always possible or practical to do, then add in the "I forgot" factor!

My new house is in a master planned community with an $1100 a year home owners association fee (mostly snobby bastards) and I've had neighbors come over and their first question would be what is that "faint smell". Anyone that knows me or that has been to my place knows that I keep my tubs very very clean. As of January 1st I went full time with my hobby and I spot clean all my tubs atleast twice a week and totally change all my bedding (aspen and sani chips) once a week. I have several rat racks in my garage as well that I change out every 4 days in order to try and keep odor down. No matter what I did you could still faintly smell them the minute you walked in my front door. It drove me crazy as I felt people would not think I kept my things clean because there was odor...

I recently bought the oreck clean air purifier http://oreckcleanair.com/ with the charcoal filters and its great. No odor at all. They are not cheap, It was over $600 for two units. One goes in my snake room and one in my great room but the odor is completely gone. I've only had them for two weeks so I don't yet know how long the filters last or if they will continue to keep working but so far I'm very happy. The filters are $40 for a 4 pack and while the sales rep tells you that they last 6 months the package says 2 months and I'm guessing that means 1 month, but it would still be worth it.

PS I'll have my first table all to myself this weekend at the Orlando Show (forgot the table number but I'll be right next to the info booth with Michael Cole of Ballroom Python South and Amir. So stop by and say hi...

Should be a good show if people can find it. Not to many people at the June show as there was a hurricane and the convention center is a beautiful setup but a long walk from the parking lot and a bit difficult to find.

Perfect place if you ask me, is it by the golden coral? Or wet n wild? I know that area (international drive) better than my own neighborhood. Been there A LOT. I went to the shows section and go some info on where it is, wish I still was near there I would have loved to go.New york sucks unless your into buisiness in 3 years or so I'm out of here. You have to take I-4 west to get there right?

I know that me and my buddy are going. I'm looking for my first ball python, a real nice male pastel. Hope to see you there.

Wondering if anyone has ever used those Ionic Breeze things? Im also in search of something to cancel out the odor of my bps and rat breeding project.

For the previous worm filter, i hear it takes some time before you can tell the difference, also how often do the filters last?

Any other ideas or products to filter the air to eliminate ordors?

Thanks

Nate
