White scales on belly of day gecko? Vet was no help...

I have a male phelsuma standingi day gecko that suddenly developed white spots on his belly. I have never seen this in any of my others. I took him to the vet today and she was absolutely no help charging me $40 to tell me she didnt know what it was. Does anyone know what this is?
