Picking up

SithKnight Nov 08, 2005 09:23 PM

I need advice on picking up my 3 month old Beardie. All I manage to do is give him a workout by running him around the enclosure. That is when he is not gaping at me. What should I do? All I get from other forums is go in from the front/side. I need more advice. Should I be more aggresive going after him? I really want my beardie to like me.

Help

if he is running around that much you should try different ways to grab at him try getting your hand as low to the ground as possible so he wont think your a preditor also if he is gaping at you dont back away this will show him you are not intimidated by this behavior if it doesnt work he will stop doing it, most lizards can be stubborn the trick is for you to be more so. try to avoid chasing him its very stressfull for both him and you just get in there and scoop him up in time he will learn your not a threat
good luck

if he is eating greens you could try to hold a piece of collard or something in one hand and as he takes it scoop him up with your other hand. put your hand low, palm up and move slowly toward him and you will prolly not scare him as much

Herpgirl usally I totally agree with you, but on this one I do not many BD owners have a hard time getting there BD to eat greens, don't have your dragon associate greens with being snatch up out of it home. While in most case getting pet to associate the most basic need (food) with you can be a very good thing I am not sure this is the best way in this case.

Now to answer the question at hand JUST grab the dragon it will soon learn that you mean it not harm and you are not going to eat them, a few weeks and your dragon will be fine sitting on your chest while you surf the kingsnake board.

I was wondering how Lizzy the classroom dragon was doing? I hope all is well, and the children are enjoying having her in their classroom. I know I would have just loved having a beardie or two in the classroom when I was in grade school.

if you guys have any questions or need any help you can always email. Give lizzy a beard rub for me

She is doing great, in fact she is heading back to my house for the teacher convention so I get to spoil her for a few days. Had a bit of a problem with her eating her pellets but we got her to eat "Bearded Dragon Bites" she loves them but only eats them at night, she is pigging out on veggies and crix.

Thanks again the kids love her
