feeder chicks?

carlos1 Nov 08, 2005 09:33 PM

Hey guys,

my local "feeder" supplier didnt have pup rats for me this time. But he did have baby chicks for cheap. My caiman eat them right up. They seem like they would be good of nutritional value with the bones beak and innards. Anyone else feed chicks to their caiman? I'm also feeding mice as well but just curious bc chicks are really cheap.

I've used chicks before, but never as long term solutions. I mostly used them for baby pythons to get them started feeding.
I heard, and I don't know if it's true or not, that chicks may not have as much calcium content as you'd like due to immature bone structures.
I certainly would feel comfortable with them being a component of a varied diet.

Variety...a fundamental truth, to make sure any organism recieves a full array of vitamins and minerals; it is essential they recieve as varied a diet as possible. I have the ability to feed pigeons, chickens, mice, rats, pigs, and several species of cockroach.....I know not everyone breeds a variety of food items....but I think that if you can obtain chicks, especially home grown, non hormone pumped individuals, then you have a easily packed with protein meal. I also believe that if you can offer whole items instead of meat, that you prevent finicky feeders as the animal matures.
