Is there a difference between "Black Pastels" and "Cinnamon Pastels"?

amarilrose Nov 09, 2005 11:43 AM

Could someone please explain to me the difference between the "Black Pastel" morph and the "Cinnamon Pastel" morph? Of the two, I have only seen the Cinnamon Pastel morph in person, and pictures of both on the internet. I haven't been able to tell the difference between them yet. I am really just trying to understand what I am seeing advertised in the classified section here, and on breeders' websites. Thanks.

Here's the scoop,

The black pastel and cinnamon are indeed the same morph, but are slightly different looking and giving a different tone to the super.

Same morph, slightly differnt alleles for the same thing.

This is pulled straight from the Harford Reptile Breeding Center website: (Link to this info is below)

Black Pastel Ball Pythons, also known as Black Cinnamons are still seldom available. This mutation, when bred to itself produces a solid black animal in the super phase. This is the same mutation as the Cinnamon Ball, but this particular lineage produces animals that are a much deeper, higher contrast black and gold color. When bred to a pastel, the Black Pastel produces the Black Pewter Ball Python, and the Super Pastel x Black Pastel produces the Silver Streak (above).

Hope this helps,
Brian
