Shedding in Transit??

jennrosefx Nov 09, 2005 12:50 PM

My beautiful little LTR hatchling arrived today, and when I opened the package, saw that he had just begun to shed...his skin was peeled up to just near his eyes at that point. I placed him in his new tank and figured I'd just let him do his thing. Should I have left him in the deli-cup until he was done instead? Do you think he will have a problem with this shed if he is stressed? Should I soak him or anything?...he may be dehydrated. Sorry, I'm obsessing.

He is probably better off in his cage where he will have room to shed properly. However, you need to make sure he is properly hydrated to allow the skin to come off.

I would probably put the snake in a container with a few millimeters (no more!) of water for an hour or so, then transfer the snake to its cage and let it shed on its own.

I certainly wouldn't be handling it until it is done. You probably shouldn't handle it for 24-48 hours anyway while it is adjusting to its new environment.

Ahh...he just shed perfectly. Guess I was being a paranoid mum. And I keep catching him in the act of exploring and poking around his new home. He's so much more inquisitive than my corn was when I first brought her home. I love him!
