gave the pietschmanni tank a facelift

umop_apisdn Nov 09, 2005 04:15 PM

i dont know why i even bother mentioning this before i have any pictures to share, but i worked on the pietschmanni tank quite a bit today. basically, i took my new 40 gal tank, fixed it up, and then added an extension to the top, very similar to my henkeli extension for those of you that remember it. only this time, i used porch screening panels to build it rather than just gluing screen to a wooden frame. turned out pretty nice, though i think i need a new light. i guess i just about doubled the size of the tank by adding on the extension, so it should be somewhere in the proximity of an 80 gal enclosure at this point. kinda wanted to make things a lil drier, seeing as thats what most people are having luck with now (even though absolutely no one will share detailed information about keeping corkbarks with me!!!). so hopefully ill have better luck with my corkbarks now that they should have some extra elbow room. seems like nothing is coming from the female i observed mating a couple months ago, hopefully that will change. now im off to snap some new pics.

looks real nice mike, good work. i dunno what it is about that image feature, but sometimes it just doesn't work. i started just copying the one from tools and toys and inserting my link directly in that one each time, because otherwise sometimes it doesn't work
but once again, nice addition.

my problem is that there are so many different image tags i can never remember which ones go with which site, cuz everyone seems to use a different one. i tried [image] at first but in the end found out you have to just use img.

Wow Mike, that is an amazing tank. I really like the idea of the extension. I may have to try that. Did those panels come like that or did you have to make them yourself with window screening kits or something? Thanks.

all i did was i went to the local hardware store and bought a bunch of porch screening material. so yea, thats exactly what i did. to hold it all together, i had to buy tiny hinges and drill tiny holes for all of those, not exactly the way i wanted to do it, but any of the other un-hinged pieces were too big for the screen frame. it ended up costing approximately $40 to build the extension, paired with $40 for the tank, i dont think that $80 is bad for an 80 gal ( /-)terrarium.

well, it seems for the most part they do like it. they readily ate the crickets i offered to them. also, just as a side note, they seem to enjoy hanging around the upper parts of the enclosure, which is mostly just wooden branches. as a matter of fact, most of what ive seen of them since theyve been in the new enclosure, they've been in the upper half of the tank.
