herpguy24 Nov 09, 2005 05:04 PM

I have found a snake that has black and orange rings. It was in the water but it doesn't look native for here. Any ideas?

You say it does not look native to here, but you forgot to tell us where exactly here is.

Try to post a picture of the snake if you still have it, and where are you located?

Oh yeah sorry, I skip over some things. At first it looked like a kinsnake. I live in MD(maryland) and I found it in the stairs(outside stairs).

What part of Maryland? I am in Germantown. The closest thing to a black and orange band snake around here would be a eastern hognose. Other then that you are probably right and it's not native.

If it isnt native i was thinking someone may have lost a Ringed Python, anyone second my opinion? Its just a wild geuss

Some additional details would be helpful, any belly pattern/color, What kind of pupils/Eyecolor,spurs?, Scales keeled or smooth. Head shape and markings on head would be good to, or how about a picture. If it's not native, we need more to go on.

It was in the water and on the outside stairs?

It sounds like it could be a young watersnake. They are white with reddish bands.
There are also milksnakes in your area that would be white with reddish blotches or bands.
