keeping tarantulas as pets is different.......
yes some species will tolerate being held, but me as keeper i dont hold any of mine as if they are dropped or try to jump and take a fall they can suffer injuries, so i look at it as better to just look at....... as for venom, some people keep venomous snakes.....most tarantulas arent that dangerous, so you have to know how to respect them, as far as me being bitten i have not been bitten so far, but some species can uricate hairs, meaning they can throw (fling) some of their hairs(bristles) when agitated, my rose hair has gotten me about 4 times, it just itches til they work out that takes a few days, the four times she got me she was in premolt..... the ones i keep are all considered good beginners species........keeping them, can be difficult depending on the species, humidity and warmth are what you have to keep a close eye on, although most do well with the humidity from just the water dish..... cleaning the enclosure you just keep the substrate clean and free of mites, and change the substrate most only do it every 6 months to a year, to avoid stressing the tarantula out..........
i keep them because i think they are pretty animals and i enjoy watching them .....and enjoy watching them grow....
i also keep snakes because i think they are beautiful creatures and i can hold them
