Strange bumps 2

PaulWoz Jul 22, 2003 12:54 PM

I have recently posted that my snake has strange bumps all over his body. His condition doesnt seem to be getting any better and now he refuses to eat. He usually eats alot more than my other snake although he is quite smaller than him. When I picked him up, he didn't move much and his scales seem to be "peeling off" his body. They don't actually fall off but they seem kind of loose. Does anyone know what this could be?? I don't know about herp vets in my area so I'll have to keep looking but until then is there anything I can do??

-Thanks

Hello... I saw in another post that you are from NYC... so I went to QWESTDEX.com and did a search for vets from that area:
http://qwestdex.com/servlet/ActionServlet?pid=bresults&from=&resultform=basic&city=New york&state=New York&hdg_val=Veterinarians & Hospitals#4501#&heading=&name=&Submit.x=83&Submit.y=6

Just call... call... call...

I don't want to be mean but you really should have made sure you had a vet before geting the snakes... [and I am saying this for the benifit of anyone who is reading and wants to get a snake or other reptlie... find the vet first.] and if moving to the area that is one of the first things you should have done.

Good luck.

Thanks so much.

I'll also try to get some pictures to post up so you can see how he looks.

Make sure you keep him in another seperate area or room from your other snakes ....and always take care of him last ..wash hands real good to.....chris

It sounds like a condition which commonly occurs when keeping snakes too humid. Garter snakes should be kept in dry enclosures. This condition "cures itself" if the snake is not too badly infected. After a couple of sheds the bumps will disappear. Except for a small water dish, the snake's environment must be kept completely dry.

I keep two snakes in the same tank, so if the environment is too humid, wouldn't they both be affected?
