Hypo Everglades.. Different bloodlines..

byron.d Nov 10, 2005 04:16 PM

I know the range of the glades rat is relatively small, and thereby having a small gene pool to draw from.... so, does anyone know if there is more than one line of hypos out there....???

I ask because I just received a pair of super nice looking hypos (thanks a ton Tom!!) and in a photo of one of the adults, the orange looks a bit darker and it did have stripes - light but nonetheless stripes... I’ve seen other hypo glades with no stripes at all, and with glowing orange scales….

I'd really appreciate some input...

The line I have is from the Loves and there is a second line from Marsha Lincoln. Thing is they are both from the same original animal and where breed into each other more than once from what I have been told. Add to that that some people are sold yellow rats as glades because they have a little orange to them and the customer doesn't know any better. That customer gets a nice hypo and breeds it to his yellow "glades" and then back to the glades parent and so on.

As far as I can gather though the Love Line and the Lincoln line are the two best lines out there and closest to the original. People have off shoots from those and depending what they have done to improve the line you get the variation you are seeing. Both the Loves and from what I have been told Mrs. Lincoln have sold off their stock so who has them is unknown.

Post a pic of the animal with stripes. It may just be a het animal. I have a few people that prefer that so they have a animal with each look.

Pesonally, if the snake has dark stipes, like that one does, it would be hard fo me to declare it hypomelanistic. That said, it does have nice bright orange coloring so who is to say? To me, it is a very nice normal. This pic is one I got from Dwight Good. It is defintiely normal but check out the coloring. There is a little too much glare in the shot but you can see the snake well enough.

I was going to post last night when I saw it but I was told by my girlfriend that I was not allowed back on the computer. LOL Love her though.

Anyway the adult pic is a normal in my opinion and the babies look just like hypos should. I actually contacted them to see what was left and they told me they are sold out but "might get more". To me that means they are not breeding themselves. Though, of course, I don't know for sure and there is no problem with that either. It is just in this case I think they had the wrong adult pic for the babies or the adult is a het. like I said earlier.

At the price they are selling them for you really can't go wrong. After 6 months if they don't color up you can almost certainly sell them at a profit.

Here is a altered pic that makes my pair of adult hypos look way too cool.

Thanks for the plug. That is my site. Problem is I am not good with computers and I don't know how to change the info on the site. LOL Someone else set it up for me. If you want to get a hold of me my email has change since March of 03 or whatever it was that I last updated the site. I don't even talk to the person who set it up and I don't have the password. (DUH) Anyway I had some angry people tell me I should get the email info updated so here you go.
